Dale Penninger Griffin passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, at Harris Hospice in Charlotte following complications from lung cancer. Born in Charlotte in 1947, Dale was a lifelong Charlottean whose life was centered around family, friendship and making others feel valued.

Dale graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1965. Three years later, on August 24, 1968, she married Steve Griffin, her loyal and devoted husband. Together, they built a life filled with family, shared memories and lasting relationships.

Her greatest happiness came from the people closest to her. Dale was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Becky Smith and her husband, Ian, and Emily Dee. She was also a proud grandmother to Maddie and Abby Smith, Cooper Hamrick and Isabel Dee, cherishing the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Dale was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Vester Penninger, and her sister, Donna Wood. She is survived by her siblings John Penninger, Sharon Simmons and Lisa Johnson, along with her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and many friends who loved her dearly.

Throughout her life, Dale was known for her warm and loving personality, steadfast loyalty and genuine encouragement of others. She had a special ability to make people feel appreciated and supported, whether they were family members, friends, coworkers or others who crossed her path.

Her kindness was often accompanied by a memorable sense of humor. The laughter she shared with those around her became part of the many memories her loved ones now carry with them.

Dale’s influence extended far beyond her immediate family. The people who knew her benefited from her warmth, generosity and ability to bring encouragement into their lives. Her legacy will continue through the countless people she touched and, above all, through the family she cherished so deeply.

In accordance with Dale’s wishes, no funeral or memorial services will be held. Instead, those who knew and loved her are encouraged to honor her memory by sharing a laugh, remembering a special moment and spreading a little joy in her name.

Dale Penninger Griffin leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, laughter and family devotion that will continue to live on in the memories of everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
