Henry Peter Johnson Obituary, Death – Carmel Man Remembered for His Free Spirit, Wit and Love of the Outdoors

Henry Peter “Hank” Johnson, 73, passed away on September 5, 2026, in Carmel, Indiana. Born on May 24, 1953, Hank built a life shaped by his career in radiology, his love of nature and music, and the many relationships he treasured along the way.

Hank was a proud graduate of St. Monica and Brebeuf Preparatory School before attending the University of Vermont. He went on to establish a career in radiology, working in several locations, including Boston, New Hampshire and Maine.

Although he was born in Indiana, Hank developed a strong connection to outdoor life. He became an avid surfer while living in Maine and enjoyed snow skiing in the White and Green Mountains. His appreciation for nature extended into his everyday interests, including woodworking and spending time with his many beloved dogs.

Music, creativity and the outdoors were among the things that brought Hank the most happiness. He also valued time with family and friends, often bringing laughter and joy to those around him.

Those who knew Hank will remember him for his free spirit, quick wit and genuine concern for people who were less fortunate. His character and willingness to care for others left a lasting impression on the people who shared his life.

Hank is survived by his daughter, Rita Gabrielle “Gabi,” and his siblings Paul, Andy, Mark, Chris, Greg and Claudia “C.C.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rita Johnson.

Hank’s life reflected a love of adventure, creativity, friendship and family. His memory will remain with those who knew and loved him, as they remember the humor, warmth and independent spirit that made him who he was.
